Some sound is built to be worshipped in. The Reliquary keeps the archive's liturgical work: music with the patience of stone, made for cold rooms with high ceilings and no congregation.

Here a single chord is a whole service. Bells toll with no hand on the rope; voices sing with the words removed until only the shape of devotion remains; a heartbeat is slowed almost to stopping, so that the space between beats becomes the largest thing in the room.

It asks the oldest thing ritual has ever asked of anyone: stay, be still, and let something slow enough become holy.

On wordless voices

Vespers is built from sawtooth tone shaped by three formant filters — the resonances that turn breath into a vowel. Slid slowly between shapes, they sing 'oo' toward 'ah' and back, a choir that has forgotten language but not the act of singing.

On the slowed heart

A pulse at the edge of stopping is the most human rhythm there is, and the most unsettling. Slow Heart places a soft sub-thump beneath a mourning drone; the longer you listen, the more the silence between beats sounds like a held breath.
